The Jeremy Granger File

Age:
21
Major/Future Occupation:
Cell & Molecular Biology and Spanish; I want to be a medical doctor.
Native of:
Hobbs, New Mexico
Years running:
4 (didn't run my freshman and sophomore year of college)
Started running because:
I wanted to letter in Junior High
I knew I was hooked on running when:
I stopped running.
Favorite places to run:
Santa Fe on these hidden trails that only the locals know. I had to get a local to show me where they are.
Current weekly mileage:
65-70 before I got injured. Should be running again in a couple of weeks and hopefully get up to 80.
PR's:
29:13 5-mile, 29:54 at Mae Simmons after stopping to tie my shoe
Best or most satisfying performance ever:
Running a PR at the state meet in highschool
Most recent race:
Mae Simmons, my stinking shoe came off after the mile mark. I had to tie my shoe with frozen hands (it had to have been minus 45 or something like that)
Favorite race:
3200
One of my misconceptions about running was:
I thought that once I stopped running, I wouldn't miss it. I took two years off of running and couldn't stand it.
Any pre-race superstitions?
I run three laps around the starting area and chant mecka lecka hi mecka hiny ho.
Training philosophy/schedule:
Don't get injured. it stinks
Training diet:
It's too hard to keep a strict diet when you're a poor college student.
One piece of advice I'd give to other runners is:
Don't boost your mileage too quickly. You'll get injured, I promise.
If I could go on a social/training run with any person, living or dead, it would be:
Living
When nobody's looking, I like to:
Turn invisible. either that or daydream
In a movie of my life, I would like to be played by:
A mexican with an anglo last name. like me : )
Favorite restaurants:
Red Lobster
Favorite movie:
Princess Bride, The Matrix, Good Will Hunting
Favorite book:
The Bible, I and Thou (Martin Buber), anything by Rudolpho Anaya
My least favorite physical feature:
My hip flexors.
One of my hidden talents is:
Rolling my belly, playing piano and trumpet
My idea of a dream vacation is:
To live in a castle in Scotland for a year.
Other interests:
Medicine, people watching, rock-climbing, reading, making a website for my premed society
What was your first impression of Tech?
I felt like I was too close to home, but Tech grew on me very quickly. I was used to the dirt and flat land so the only real change was being around more people.
The most impulsive thing I've ever done is:
Drive to Oklahoma to see about a girl.
One thing that other track team members would love to know about me is:
I'm no where near as serious as I seem to be at practice.
