The Tracie Akerhielm File

Age:
18
Major/Future Occupation:
No Idea
Native of:
Sulphur Springs, TX
Years running:
7
Started running because:
Because I was faster than the 'popular' girls and sucked at basketball.
I knew I was hooked on running when:
When I became popular--no really it just happened.  Or maybe that day when I realized that I just wasn't me without running.
Favorite places to run:
Trails, streets, mountains, any place where it is raining (but only if there is lots of lightning and not too cold), dirt roads, blacktop roads, sidewalks, red and black tracks, cushy grass, the halls in my house and in the dorm, gyms, treadmills (but not too much), and that is all I can think of. Oh yeah, and in Paavo Camps!
Current weekly mileage:
65-70
PR's:
mile-5:02, 3000-10:07, 5000-17:44
Best or most satisfying performance ever:
breaking the state record my senior high school year
Most recent race:
conference indoors
Favorite race:
I'm going to have to say Seattle just because I got to drink lots of coffee!
One of my misconceptions about running was:
I used to think that anyone who ran long-distance was crazy--oh wait, that's true
Any pre-race superstitions?
1.) You can't CROSS the finish line when jogging the course the day before the race.
2.) The lucky BUNNY must be with you, or be with you in spirit.
3.) Your training/racing shoes must never be placed on the wrong side of the other--that's double bad luck!
Training philosophy/schedule:
Run every day or die. . .  947 days and counting . . .
Training diet:
coffee, chocolate, and bagels
One piece of advice I'd give to other runners is:
always keep up with your laundry--never wear dirty undies
If I could go on a social/training run with any person, living or dead, it would be:
With Lynn Jennings or Edgar Allan Poe. Lynn Jennings because she was my idol when I started running, and Edgar Allan Poe because that would be some really freaky conversation!!!
When nobody's looking, I like to:
Sing Soul Decision songs to myself
In a movie of my life, I would like to be played by:
Demi Moore--cause she is really buff, just like me (and I bet she could make a good growl)
Favorite restaurants:
Outback, Daybreak Cafe, Scholtzky's
Favorite movie:
Contact--HA! Anthony and Josh-- that really isn't my favorite movie
Favorite book:
my training log
My least favorite physical feature:
the bottom of my feet. ewww
One of my hidden talents is:
I am actually quite the talented tent setter-upper
My idea of a dream vacation is:
Stranded on a deserted island, that closely resembles Hawaii, with Trevor Guthrie of Soul Decision, Starbucks, and unlimited supplies of running shoes that fit me perfectly-- oh and no bathing suits (hee hee)
Other interests:
biking, swimming, camping, Bjork and Gus Gus, and bad movies
What was your first impression of Tech?
I am not going to go here--Oh and, Coach Smith is weird, really really weird.
The most impulsive thing I've ever done is:
I won't go there--my friends know
One thing that other track team members would love to know about me is:
what I am saying most of the time
Quote:
To accomplish all that is possible we must first attempt the impossible. To be all that we can be, we must first dream of being more.
